During my time as an English teacher in Cusco, Peru, I had the opportunity to explore the classic nearby attractions such as Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, Saqsayhuaman, and the Sacred Valley, as well as the other ancient sites and ruins that surround Cusco. However, the Nazca Lines always held a special fascination for me. Ever since I first saw images of these mysterious geoglyphs in movies like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, they had remained etched in my mind. So, when I finally had some time off from my teaching job in Cusco, I packed my backpack and embarked on a twelve hour bus ride journey to see these intriguing monuments.
As I arrived at the Nazca Lines, I was immediately struck by their enigmatic allure. Stretching across the vast desert floor, these geoglyphs have puzzled scientists, archaeologists, and travelers for centuries. On the approximately twelve-hour bus ride back to my home and job in Cusco, I had a lot to think about. Nazca would be my last trip while I live in Cusco, it was almost time to say goodbye to Peru. My flight was scheduled to leave in a month. Contemplating on my time in Peru I felt that my trip to Nazca had been at the very top of my experiences, of course I had enjoyed the lush rainforest and the views of Machu Picchu and the ancient marvels surrounding Cusco, all filled with history, but the trip to the dessert had made a profound impact on me and it was the highlight of my time abroad in Peru.
